Outing to Seal Island and Fish on the Rocks take aways

Our Montessori 9-12 class went on an outing to Hout Bay harbour. We went on a boat tour to seal island and then went out for fish and chips.
Each child was given money and we practiced how to order food politely.

Exams are over!

The boys have been feeling quite stressed and so we decided to go back to kindergarten and play with blocks today. They built up and bashed down all morning!

Exam time

Or class writes exams in June (mid year) and December (end of the year) because we are part of a mainstream school.  Our class is writing Afrikaans today. That is a language indigenous to South Africa.
This is about the quietest the class has ever been!
We are in the middle of a very cold spell, and classrooms in South Africa are not heated, which is why some of the children have blankets and beanies.

Summer, we should rename her "What-a-mess" :)

More hail!

It was 9 degrees Celcius in our classroom today.  That is Very VERY cold in South Africa. Remember, we have no indoor heating system and no heaters at school of any kind. Our Winter uniform is a t-shirt and a nylon sweat suit/tracksuit...definitely not warm enough for 9 degrees...we can't feel our fingers and toes!

At break time the boys ran outside to play with the hail, but never having done it before, they didn't know how cold it would make them, they scooped it up and piled it into their "hammock'ed" t-shirts, and stamped in it with their shoes... then I had to deal with 10 crying boys with cold hands and wet feet! Silly bananas!

Hail!

On Thursday it was 10 degrees Celsius! The coldest day of the year.  At about 2 it started to pour down and then it hailed! We ran outside to catch hail in our hands.
It is very unusual for us to get hail, and we never get snow. Occasionally it will snow in the mountains, and families will drive up for the weekend especially to see and play with the snow.

The average winter day is 15 - 20 degrees C, but this week it's 5 - 10 degrees C. To us it is VERY cold! Brrr!

Blogging break

Two weeks ago my laptop was stolen from my desk in my classroom.  Blogging is exponentially harder when you don't have immediate access to the Internet.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to buy another one.  Until then,  we're going on a little blogging break.
